Woodhouse Restorations Assists Old Goat Books After Fire

Waterloo, ON — Following a fire in a neighbouring unit that caused extensive smoke damage to Old Goat Books, Woodhouse Restorations has been working to help the long-standing Uptown Waterloo bookstore recover and reopen.

While no one was injured, the incident left the store’s interior and its inventory of more than 20,000 books affected by soot and smoke. The Woodhouse Restorations team immediately mobilized to assess the damage, carefully document the contents, and begin the specialized cleaning and deodorization process required to restore each book and surface.

Every book is being cleaned by hand to remove surface debris before undergoing a specialized deodorization process designed to eliminate all traces of smoke odour. At the same time, crews are performing deep cleaning of the store itself including shelving, carpets, and fixtures with air scrubbers and odour-removal equipment operating continuously to restore indoor air quality.

Old Goat Books has been a fixture in Waterloo’s literary community for more than two decades, known for its curated selection of used and rare books. Woodhouse Restorations is proud to support the store’s recovery and help ensure this community landmark continues to thrive for years to come.
