Responding to Surge in Ice Dam Damage Across Waterloo Region

Kitchener, ON — The recent stretch of winter weather has kept Woodhouse Restorations busy, as crews respond to an unexpected surge in residential water-damage calls caused by ice damming across Waterloo Region.
Since mid-February, the team has received nearly 300 calls for service, many related to significant roof leaks and ceiling damage. What is typically a quiet time of year has quickly turned into one of the busiest weeks on record for our Restorations Division.

Ice damming occurs when heat from a home melts the snow on the roof, which then refreezes at the eaves, preventing proper drainage and forcing water back under shingles. The result can be leaks, staining, and in some cases, mould risk if moisture remains trapped inside walls or insulation.
In response, Woodhouse Restorations has been working around the clock to complete emergency tear-outs, insulation removal, and drying operations to stabilize affected homes. Field teams are prioritizing rapid response and preventive measures, using specialized drying equipment to mitigate secondary damage and reduce the risk of future mould growth.
The company also reminds homeowners to stay proactive during fluctuating temperatures -checking for ice buildup, ensuring eavestroughs remain clear, and contacting professionals for snow removal or inspection to prevent recurrence.
Woodhouse Restorations continues to work closely with homeowners and insurance partners to restore affected properties safely and efficiently.
