Woodhouse Group served as Construction Manager for the Dickson Public School Adaptive Reuse Project, a transformation that converted a 19th-century limestone schoolhouse into 10 modern condo-style rental units. The 12,000-square-foot building was fully renovated to include five two-bedroom apartments, four one-bedroom units, and one bachelor unit, with two ground-floor suites designed to be fully accessible and barrier-free. Throughout the project, modern building systems were integrated while preserving historical character, resulting in living spaces that feature exposed stone walls, tin ceiling accents, restored hardwood floors, and deep window sills. The scope also included extensive structural updates, system integrations, and accessibility enhancements to bring the heritage property up to modern code and functionality.
This project required careful coordination between Woodhouse Group, John MacDonald Architects, and the owner, balancing heritage preservation with contemporary residential needs. The effort was recognized through the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation, as well as the Grand Valley Construction Association (GVCA) 2025 Building Excellence Awards.
