Cambridge, ON — Woodhouse Contracting, in collaboration with owner Mark McInnis of Summerco Properties Inc., is leading the transformation of the former Dickson Public School into a 10-unit apartment building, marking the next chapter for one of Cambridge’s most recognizable landmarks.
Built in 1876, Dickson Public School is a cornerstone of local history, serving generations of students and families in the Galt community before closing in 2014. The project will preserve the character and craftsmanship of the original structure while introducing modern, comfortable living spaces that reflect today’s needs.

Working alongside John MacDonald Architect, Woodhouse Contracting is overseeing the restoration and conversion, focusing on maintaining the building’s historic charm — including its 19th-century pressed tin ceilings, hardwood floors, and limestone walls — while integrating updated systems, accessibility features, and energy-efficient design.
This adaptive reuse initiative exemplifies Woodhouse Contracting’s commitment to revitalizing heritage properties and supporting thoughtful urban renewal throughout Waterloo Region.
