Cambridge, ON — Woodhouse Contracting is proud to announce the completion of the Dickson Public School Adaptive Reuse Project, transforming one of Galt’s most recognizable landmarks into a collection of modern residential suites while preserving the building’s architectural character and history.

Originally constructed in 1877, the former elementary school operated for more than a century before closing in 2014. Today, the site at 65 Andrew Street has been thoughtfully converted into a 10-unit apartment building, blending contemporary design with the building’s heritage features.

To celebrate the end of the project, Woodhouse Contracting hosted a Community Open House and BBQ, welcoming more than 300 visitors to tour the finished suites and explore the revitalized space. Many attendees were former students, teachers, and staff, returning to see the classrooms where they once worked and learned now reimagined as living spaces.

The project, completed in collaboration with John MacDonald Architect and owner Mark McInnis, reflects a shared vision to preserve the building’s historic integrity while giving it new purpose within the community.

Guests at the open house also contributed non-perishable food and cash donations to support the Cambridge Food Bank, continuing the site’s long-standing tradition as a gathering place for community connection.

Woodhouse Contracting extends its thanks to everyone who attended and supported the event, and to all partners who helped bring this important heritage project to life.
