Kitchener, ON - Woodhouse Contracting recently completed an office expansion project that connected a client’s existing workspace to a newly leased office area within the same historic building, creating a more functional and accessible environment for their growing team.
The project included the construction of a connecting corridor to provide staff with a clear and accessible path between the two office spaces. Working within the unique shape and character of the existing heritage building, Woodhouse collaborated closely with the owner and design team to bring a complex but highly tailored layout to life.
The renovated space includes three new private offices with glazed partition fronts, along with new electrical and data drops, mechanical updates, window coverings, flooring, base, paint, and privacy film. An open office area was also created to accommodate nine additional workstations, with power and data carefully routed through nearby wood columns and the built-up wood floor to avoid the need for power poles within the compact footprint.
Additional features included a floating acoustic ceiling, pendant lighting, new HVAC distribution, and a small kitchenette with an island tucked neatly into a corner nook. Designed as a focal point within the space, the kitchenette helps support informal conversation, collaboration, and day-to-day connection among team members.
Completed within an occupied building, the project required careful planning and coordination to minimize disruption for existing tenants. Woodhouse worked closely with both the owner and landlord, using dust control measures and alternate access routes for trades and materials to keep the surrounding office environment clean, safe, and fully operational throughout construction.
